Rajgir – A new chapter of growth and modernization is about to be written in the ancient city of Rajgir. In a strategic move to improve infrastructure and connectivity, the Bihar government has approved the conversion of the Nalanda University Bypass Road from two lanes to four lanes. Let’s dive into what this means for the people of Rajgir and how it will reshape the future of the region.
1. ₹Cr Project to Transform Rajgir’s Connectivity
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during his Pragati Yatra, recognized the urgent need to enhance this stretch of road. Acting swiftly on his orders, Nalanda DM Kundan Kumar conducted a thorough inspection of the proposed site with the Road Construction Department’s executive engineer. As per the official update, funds have been allocated, and construction work is expected to begin shortly.
This project covers the road from Km 77.00 of National Highway 82 to Km 58.00 of State Highway 71, stretching up to the International Cricket Stadium Mor, with a total length of 7.20 km.
2. Third 4-Lane Road in Rajgir — A Game-Changer
This will be Rajgir’s third four-lane road, following earlier expansions. Starting at Neema Village (SH-71) and ending at Nahub Mor (NH-82), the road will significantly reduce travel time and enhance safety.
Institutions like Nalanda University, Bihar Sports University, Bihar Police Academy, State Sports Academy, and the proposed Rajgir Airport will benefit from faster, safer, and more accessible transport routes. The project is a strategic step toward building Rajgir as a modern urban center with world-class infrastructure.
3. A Solution to Rising Traffic & Accidents
The current two-lane road sees heavy footfall from tourists, locals, and freight vehicles. Over the years, this has led to frequent traffic jams and an increase in road accidents. The upcoming four-lane expansion will resolve these challenges, ensuring smooth traffic flow and improved road safety.
With lane widening from 7.00 to 10.00 meters, the road will support the growing population and increasing vehicle load. This expansion is not just a construction project; it’s a long-term investment in public safety and economic growth.
4. Strategic Boost to Tourism & Sports Infrastructure
Rajgir, already a popular tourist destination, is now emerging as a hub for sports and education. The improved road will provide direct access to key national and international institutions, boosting footfall and investments in the region.
The Rajgir International Cricket Stadium, in particular, is set to become more accessible, potentially attracting national and global sporting events. This is expected to create job opportunities and increase local revenue, thereby supporting the regional economy.
5. Looking Ahead: Rajgir on the Fast Track to Modernization
This road expansion is not just a matter of convenience—it’s a reflection of Bihar’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure, inclusive development, and urban planning. As Rajgir gears up for a brighter future, its heritage and history will now meet the pace of modern progress.
From better traffic management to boosted tourism and enhanced education access, the four-lane Nalanda University Bypass is a milestone in Rajgir’s journey of transformation.
