The ongoing controversy surrounding YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia and stand-up comedian Samay Raina has sparked intense debates across social media and news platforms. The two personalities are facing backlash over Ranveer’s comments on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent, which led to a formal complaint being filed against them along with influencer Apoorva Makhija and the show’s organizers. With Maharashtra Cyber Cell launching an investigation into the matter and summoning individuals associated with the first six episodes, the controversy continues to deepen. Amidst this uproar, reality TV personality Rakhi Sawant has stepped forward to defend Ranveer Allahabadia, urging the public to practice forgiveness rather than fuel the outrage. She believes that targeting only a select few while ignoring larger issues in the industry reflects hypocrisy and double standards.
In an exclusive conversation with ETimes, Rakhi Sawant expressed her views on what she perceives as selective outrage. She stated that while she acknowledges that Ranveer’s comments may have been inappropriate, she finds it unfair that Samay Raina is also being dragged into the controversy. She compared this situation to past incidents in Bollywood and the entertainment industry where similar or more questionable actions were overlooked. Rakhi questioned why bold scenes in films and web series do not receive the same criticism, citing actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s role in Sacred Games as an example. She also pointed out that veteran singer Udit Narayan had once kissed a female fan, yet no significant backlash followed. Furthermore, she emphasized that the public often fails to show similar outrage against serious crimes like rape and molestation, yet a podcast is now under severe scrutiny.
As the controversy gains momentum, authorities have taken action, with the National Commission for Women (NCW) summoning key individuals involved in the show, including Ranveer Allahabadia, Samay Raina, and others. The government has also directed YouTube India to take down the episode containing the controversial remarks, and this has had repercussions on Ranveer’s podcast, with singer B Praak reportedly canceling his appearance. With legal proceedings looming and public discussions intensifying, the debate over the limits of freedom of speech in digital content remains unresolved. Meanwhile, Samay Raina has yet to issue a public statement, as he is currently in the U.S. for his comedy tour. Whether this storm will pass or escalate further remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—this controversy has ignited a crucial discussion about accountability, free speech, and fairness in the entertainment industry.
